Getting there

From JFK to Roma to Palermo! We are off to Sciacca, Sicilia for a month of relaxation, food, family and art.

JFK Aeroporto

John F. Kennedy International Airport (IATA: JFK, ICAO: KJFK, FAA LID: JFK) in the borough of Queens in New York City is owned by the City of New York and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey under a long-term operating lease. It is about 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Lower Manhattan. It is the busiest international air passenger gateway in the United States, handling more international traffic than any other airport in North America. It is also the third-leading freight gateway to the country by value of shipments.[5] In 2012, the airport handled 49,292,733 passengers,[6] making it the 17th busiest airport in the world and sixth busiest in the United States by passenger traffic. Together, JFK International, LaGuardia, and Newark International airports, all operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, are the largest airport system in the United States, second in the world in terms of passenger traffic, and first in the world by total flight operations. In the last few years it has made many improvements to terminals, roadways and inter-terminal transportation. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Kennedy_International_Airport

Long overnight flight but finally here on the first leg of this trip.
Cappuccini with Joey while waiting to board the flight to Palermo.

Joey is reading about sights to see that we've missed n the past. Like the town of Caltagirone with a 2000 year old ceramics tradition.

Punta Raisi

Falcone–Borsellino Airport (IATA: PMO, ICAO: LICJ) (Italian: Aeroporto Falcone e Borsellino) or simply Palermo Airport, formerly Punta Raisi Airport is located at Punta Raisi, 19 NM (35 km; 22 mi) west northwest of Palermo, the capital city of the Italian island of Sicily. Now to the bus for Sciacca...

Our flight from Roma got in at about noon. We retrieved our bags and put them through another round of security screening then went off to find that the bus to Sciacca was not due until 3:00. So we got a snack and two Peroni's at the areoporto and waited.

Off tithe Fermata Lotobus and net some nice people traveling to Sciacca for Carnevale.

It is so good to be back here.

We met up with Emanuelle at the apartment and were treated to some special pastry made for this stage of the Lenten tradition. They were called something that meant "chatting" and were a fried pastry covered in sugar. I am embarrassed to say that I the two years since first meeting her she has archived mush more fluency in English than we have in Italian!

So what's Carnevale like now that it is back this year?

Let's go see...

Andiamo!
